There is nothing quite so basic to my practice of art as drawing from life, and nothing quite so close to my soul as working from a powerful landscape. Most of these small pieces are made on expeditions in and around Calgary, a landscape of rolling hills, big skies and the sharp edges of mountains. They walk a fine line between painting and drawing, but the experience of making them is so immediate that to me they feel like my handwriting. I’m simply out there, getting it down.
