Painting Winter/Water

I spent four years living in the Precambrian Shield country of northwestern Ontario.  It’s wild country, full of shadowed forests and deep blue lakes and granite rock cuts; harsh, mysterious, enclosed.  It’s a place that inspires imagination, and it’s where I turned to abstraction to document my experience of the land.   I understood it best in the winter when its bones were exposed by snow and its water immobile under ice.
